2024/25 GHPL: GFA postpones Matchday 20 fixtures following violence

-

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the postponement of Matchday 20 fixtures following violent incidents during the clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

Tragically, the violence led to the death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley.

In light of this, the GFA has suspended the upcoming matches to facilitate discussions with key stakeholders, including club officials, security agencies, and football governing bodies.

The suspension aims to assess the situation and implement preventive measures for the future.

The GFA is committed to enhancing the football experience in Ghana, ensuring that stadiums remain safe for players, officials, and fans.

They have pledged to take firm action against those responsible for the violence, sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Asante Kotoko has condemned the violence and pledged full cooperation with authorities in the investigation.

Additionally, Nsoatreman FC’s home venue has been indefinitely suspended by the GFA.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been assigned to lead the investigation into the tragic incident.
