GFA charges Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko for misconduct in heated clash

-

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally charged Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko following chaotic scenes during their Matchday 19 fixture.

Tensions escalated in the second half when players and officials from both teams clashed, prompting the referee to send off Justice Blay, Mohammed Camara, and Stephen Diyou.

The situation further deteriorated as fans hurled missiles onto the pitch, culminating in a tragic incident where a supporter was fatally stabbed.

In response, the GFA issued a statement on Monday morning, citing both clubs for failing to control their players and contributing to the disorder.

“Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC have been charged with a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League regulations, 2019, and Section 16 (1)(e) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, following their Matchday 19 Ghana Premier League game,” the statement read.

“It is alleged that both clubs failed to control their players, resulting in a brawl, which constitutes misconduct and brings the game into disrepute.”

The GFA Disciplinary Committee has given both clubs until February 5 to submit their responses, while further investigations proceed.

On the field, Nsoatreman FC secured a 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre. However, in light of the violent incidents, the GFA has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue.

Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been appointed to lead the investigation into the matter.
