Speaker did the right thing – Franklin Cudjoe on suspension of four MPs

-

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has said that Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, did the right thing by suspending four Members of Parliament (MPs) following a chaotic incident during Thursday’s sitting of the Appointments Committee.

The suspended MPs include the two Chief Whips for both the Minority and Majority caucuses, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, as well as Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli and Jerry Ahmed Shaib.

The Speaker has also set up a committee to investigate the incident.

The suspension comes after the Speaker described the incident as an embarrassment to the institution of Parliament.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Cudjoe supported the Speaker’s decision, saying, “It is the right thing to do. The Speaker is like the landlord of the house, and it’s his responsibility to ensure that the right thing is done.”

He further noted that whoever wants to contest that decision should directly deal with Speaker Bagbin.

Mr. Cudjoe questioned those opposing the suspension, asking, “Are they happy about what they did? Those calling for the Speaker to be sued are wrong because what happened was not pleasant.”

In his view, the Speaker’s actions were necessary to uphold the dignity of Parliament.
