Ho gets new Zongo Chief

A new Zongo chief has been installed in Ho the regional capital of the Volta Region, following the death of his predecessor, who served the community for four decades.

Danjumah Gariba, 74, succeeds his predecessor Usef Osman Bako, who ruled for four years until his death.

The installation ceremony, held on Sunday, featured traditional Zongo customs and was attended by community members.

Danjumah Gariba, a businessman and father of three, is expected to continue the legacy of promoting unity within the Zongo community, which has grown substantially in the region through trade and commerce.

The new chief, who is married with one wife, assumes leadership at a time when traditional authorities play a crucial role in community development and cultural preservation, particularly for migrant communities seeking to maintain their identity while integrating into their adopted home.

The Zongo community has established a significant presence in the Volta Region through decades of migration and settlement.

Their integration into the region’s social fabric highlights Ghana’s cultural diversity and internal migration patterns.

They have become an integral part of the Volta Region’s commercial and social landscape while maintaining their rich cultural heritage.

During the colourful ceremony, he pledged to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor in fostering Zongo unity and development while strengthening ties with their Volta hosts.

Speaking in interview with Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, Alhaji Awudu Kadri who is the Upper East Bissa Chief who graced colourful ceremony seized the opportunity to call on all Zongo’s in the volta Region to unit with the newly installed Chief for the forestering of the development in the area.

He also urged the newly installed Chief to follow the lay down principals of his predecessor in order to continue the developmental projects executed.

Some community members who also graced the occasion expressed their excitement after the installation of the new Chief.

They opined that a community without a leader can never develop and for that matter, they are optimistic that the newly installed Chief will help bring development to the Zongo community in the Volta Region.
