The Foreign Affairs Ministry nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has highlighted the importance of Ghana maintaining strong diplomatic ties with the Sahelian States, describing them as “good neighbors” with shared strategic interests.

He made these remarks on Friday, January 31, during his appearance before the Appointments Committee for vetting.

Ablakwa emphasized that it is in Ghana’s strategic interest to foster good relationships with the Sahelian States, particularly given the region’s increasing importance in West African politics and security.

“It’s in Ghana’s strategic interest to relate well with the Sahelian States,” he stated, stressing that cooperation in areas such as security, trade, and regional development is essential for mutual benefit.

He described the Sahelian States as Ghana’s “good neighbors” and noted that these nations play a critical role in regional stability.

According to Ablakwa, Ghana’s approach to diplomacy with these countries will focus on building partnerships that promote peace and prosperity in the region.
