Former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has stated that Ghanaians do not need a National Economic Dialogue (NED) to know the true state of the economy.
According to him, the data on the economy is readily available at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
In this regard, President John Mahama can consult GSS for any data on the economy.
The Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament (MP) said this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.
“We do not need a National Economic Dialogue to determine the true state of the Ghanaian economy. That data is already available at the Ghana Statistical Service, Bank of Ghana, IMF, and other multiple sources depending on what you are looking for,” he stated.
Mr. Nkrumah’s comment comes after President Mahama constituted a seven-member NED Planning Committee as part of his 120-day Social Contract with the people of Ghana.
Chaired by economist Ishmael Yamson, the initiative is aimed at addressing the nation’s pressing economic challenges while charting a path toward sustainable development.
The Committee has been tasked with organizing a high-level forum to foster consultation and build consensus on policies crucial for transforming Ghana into a resilient, inclusive, and high-growth economy. The Committee is expected to present its report within four weeks.
However, Mr. Nkrumah has said that the conference will create the impression that the government wants to renege on its promises.
