Co-host of Joy News’ AM Morning Show, Sweety Aborchie, has narrated how she was nicknamed ‘Raw Rice’ in primary school.
The nickname, she said, was popular among her classmates at Lashibi Primary School.
According to her, the nickname started in Class Three and lasted until Class Five.
Miss Aborchie disclosed this while recounting her grass-to-grace story on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 with Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.
The media personality explained that it all began after she cried over rice she was given to take to school.
“This rice was a 75kg bag some neighbors said had expired and were going to throw away. But my mum took it under the guise of helping them dump it and for two weeks, she cooked it for us,” she narrated.
Sweety said they often ate the rice without stew but didn’t complain because things were tough.
“That day, my mum told us to go to school and she’d bring the stew later, but I knew she wouldn’t. So, I was crying in a corner during breaktime when my teacher asked what was wrong. Unknowingly, as I expressed my frustration about having to eat raw rice, some classmates heard me, and it became my name,” she recalled.
