I’ll ensure befitting accommodation for soldiers – Omane Boamah

The Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has pledged to address the housing challenges faced by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), emphasising the urgent need for an infrastructure overhaul.

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah revealed an alarming accommodation deficit of approximately 17,000 units within the armed forces.

“Accommodation is very critical. The deficit is about 17,000, if I’m not mistaken. Efforts have been made by successive governments to bridge this gap,” he stated.

Omane Boamah assured the committee of his commitment to exploring various strategies to resolve the issue, including Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and direct funding from the government.

“The most important thing is to ensure that accommodation is provided. Even if we have to look at PPPs or draw on the Government of Ghana’s budget, it must result in befitting housing for our soldiers,” he added.
