Former chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Alhaji Raji, has hailed Kwesi Nyantakyi as the greatest president in the history of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Nyantakyi, who served as GFA president from 2005 to 2018, is credited with overseeing a golden era for Ghanaian football.
Most notably, he led the Black Stars to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification in 2006, held in Germany. Under his leadership, the team participated in two more World Cups—reaching the quarterfinals in the 2010 edition in South Africa and exiting at the group stage in 2014 in Brazil.
Nyantakyi also guided the Black Stars to two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in 2010 and 2015, though they finished as runners-up on both occasions.
At the youth level, Ghana achieved historic success under his tenure. The Black Satellites made history by becoming the first African team to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009 in Egypt.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Alhaji Raji praised Nyantakyi’s accomplishments.
“Kwesi Nyantakyi is the best GFA president to have ever emerged from the country,” he stated.
“He achieved a lot of things when he was in office. His only challenge was the other stuff that we all know, but for me, he remains the best-ever GFA president,” he added.
However, Nyantakyi’s tenure ended in controversy when he was implicated in alleged corruption following an investigative documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
After his exit, the GFA was temporarily managed by a Normalisation Committee before Kurt Okraku assumed leadership in 2019.
