Europa League preview: Porto host Olympiakos as Manchester United host Rangers

The UEFA Europa League will feature matches between some of Europe’s biggest clubs, such as Lazio, Manchester United, Galatasaray and Ajax, as Matchday 7 is played from Tuesday 21 to Thursday 23 January 2025.

There is no better place to get your season-long ticket to the best football the world has to offer than DStv!

While most of the action falls on Thursday, Tuesday and Wednesday will feature Galatasaray v Dinamo Kiev and Besiktas v Athletic Bilbao respectively. Gala and Bilbao have performed strongly thus far, with the former club inspired by Victor Osimhen – though coach Okan Buruk has insisted that they cannot put too much pressure on the Nigerian striker in regards to a permanent move from Napoli.

“He wants to be with us. He has no thoughts about the mid-season break. He always confirms this. It is not right to press the player during this process and to bring this issue to the agenda. It is also not right from an economic perspective,” said Buruk.

“It is too early to talk. His initiatives can be shown later in the season. I think this process needs to be seen clearly and the player’s mind needs to be at ease. The best thing to do is not to confuse the player while the season is going on.”

On Thursday, the headline match is a ‘Battle of Britain’ between Manchester United and Rangers at Old Trafford. The teams are both fighting to secure a top eight place – which earns automatic progression to the Round of 16 – and Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund is determined to keep up his scoring form in the competition.

“We want to qualify directly from the top eight so getting as many points as possible is very important for us,” said the Danish attacker.

The same evening also features Roma away to AZ Alkmaar, Tottenham Hotspur visiting Hoffenheim, table-toppers Lazio have a potential thriller at home to Real Sociedad, and Ajax head to Latvia for a clash with Riga FS.
