The Appointments Committee of Parliament has officially commenced public hearings to vet nominees for ministerial and regional ministerial positions following their nomination by President John Dramani Mahama.
This vetting process, conducted in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, is a vital step in assessing and approving key government appointments.
The proceedings have attracted significant public interest, with many individuals visiting Parliament to witness the vetting sessions in person.
In response, Parliament has taken measures to ensure the safety and security of Members of Parliament, staff, and the general public.
To manage the large turnout and maintain order, access to the venue has been restricted. Only individuals with invitation cards or proper accreditation will be permitted to enter the Committee room and the precincts of Parliament.
For those unable to attend in person, Parliament has partnered with several media houses to broadcast the proceedings live.
The public is encouraged to follow the vetting process remotely, ensuring transparency and widespread participation.
This approach aims to balance public involvement with security considerations, reaffirming Parliament’s commitment to an open yet orderly review of the ministerial nominees.
