Kim Lars Björkegren will steer Black Queens to greatness – GFA

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, believes Kim Lars Björkegren has the necessary skills and experience to lead the Black Queens to success.

Björkegren, a Swedish coach, has been appointed as the new head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s team on a two-year contract. He replaces Nora Hauptle, who did not extend her contract with the GFA.

In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum expressed his confidence in Björkegren’s abilities, noting the coach’s extensive experience in women’s football.

“Two days ago, we announced a new head coach for the Black Queens, which is refreshing. Kim Lars Björkegren is coming in on a two-year contract,” he said.

“He has been in women’s football for a very long time. After Nora Hauptle left, there were many complaints, but eventually, we followed the same process used to bring in Nora.”

Asante Twum also acknowledged that while Björkegren has not coached in Africa before, he is a proven champion and is more than capable of leading the team.

“Kim is a champion, though he has not worked in Africa before, and this will be his first stint in Africa.

“We believe that Kim Lars has the competence to lead the team, so I am pleading that just like how we supported Nora Hauptle, let us support him as well so we can compete and challenge for titles.”

Asante Twum also mentioned that the Black Queens will engage in friendly matches next month to prepare for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco later this year.

“Next month, the Black Queens will be engaged in friendly games as part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” he added.

Kim Lars Björkegren is expected to be officially unveiled as head coach of the Black Queens next month.
