Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Samuel Aboabire, has criticized the Black Stars for their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This marks the first time in 20 years that the senior national team has failed to qualify, finishing bottom of Group F with only three points from six matches.
In an interview, Aboabire, who also serves as the Greater Accra Regional FA chairman, expressed his frustration with the team’s inability to find the back of the net.
“The Black Stars’ inability to score simple goals contributed to our failure to qualify for the AFCON,” Aboabire told Amansan TV.
“These same players score difficult goals for their clubs in Europe. I hope that when they return for the World Cup qualifiers, they will deliver the goals we need,” he added.
With the AFCON qualification campaign now behind them, Ghana’s focus will shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Chad and Madagascar in March later this year.
