His remarks follow the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — the first time in two decades. Ghana finished last in Group F, earning only three points from six matches.
With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume in March, Nyantakyi stressed the importance of qualification, warning that Ghanaians would not forgive the GFA if the team falls short.
“The 2026 World Cup is a big deal for Ghanaians, and should the Black Stars fail to qualify, citizens will not forgive the Ghana Football Association (GFA),” he told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.
“The last time America hosted the World Cup was in 1994, and Ghana did not qualify. The GFA and government must do everything possible to ensure the Black Stars qualify,” he added.
Currently, the Black Stars sit second in their qualifying group, tied with leaders Comoros at 9 points, with crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar approaching on Matchday five and six.
