Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed disappointment in Otto Addo’s performance as head coach of the Black Stars.
Addo, who was appointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, has faced intense criticism after failing to lead the national team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)—a failure not seen in two decades.
After six qualifying matches, the Black Stars were winless, finishing last in Group F with just three points.
Throughout the past football calendar year, the senior team managed only two victories in 14 games, with Addo overseeing 10 of those matches.
Nyantakyi, the former CAF 1st Vice President, pointed out that these results indicate Addo’s inability to meet expectations.
“With the performance of the Black Stars under Otto Addo, everything shows that he is not doing well,” he told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.
“The last time Ghana failed to qualify for an AFCON tournament was twenty years ago and under Otto Addo, we did not qualify so he has not performed.”
While Nyantakyi refrained from directly calling for Addo’s dismissal, he emphasized that the results speak for themselves.
“I am not in the position to say he has to be sacked or stay but the numbers are there for all of us to see,” he added.
The GFA has yet to make a decision regarding Addo’s future following the team’s AFCON failure.
However, the Black Stars are set to reconvene in March for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
