A 43-year-old woman is receiving treatment at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries in a violent incident in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region.
The incident, which occurred last night, has left the community in shock and heightened concerns about rising tensions in Nkwanta.
Gun violence erupted in Tuobodom, a community in the municipal capital, when unidentified individuals opened fire on residents, causing chaos and significant property damage.
In the aftermath, two houses were set on fire, worsening the crisis and displacing several families.
Security personnel, including firefighters, police, immigration officers, and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) agents, struggled to contain the flames, which destroyed the structures and deepened the community’s distress.
Speaking to Adom News, the injured woman described how she and her children were in their room when unknown assailants began firing into their home without warning.
In trying to protect her children, she was shot below her breast and rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment.
The Nkwanta Divisional Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate the situation.
