Justin Kodua apologizes for NPP defeat, pledges party’s revival

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has issued a heartfelt apology on behalf of the party for its failure to retain power in the recently concluded December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

The NPP suffered a significant defeat to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in both contests, a loss Mr. Kodua acknowledged with regret during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show on January 14.

“On behalf of the party—from our former President Akufo-Addo, the National Chairman, our Flagbearer, and all of us—to the many Ghanaians who supported the party, especially the youth who placed their trust in us and worked tirelessly during the 2016 and 2020 elections, we say we are deeply sorry,” he stated.

Mr. Kodua extended gratitude to the diverse group of professionals, including lecturers, lawyers, and businesspeople, who contributed to the party’s success in previous years.

He acknowledged the party’s shortcomings, particularly in its treatment of certain individuals who played pivotal roles.

While defending the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration, Mr. Kodua argued that the projects and policies implemented under the NPP were unparalleled, except for those of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He highlighted social policies as key accomplishments but admitted the party’s failure lay in its inability to maintain strong connections with its grassroots supporters.

“Our failure was not in policies but in human management and engagement. That’s where we fell short as a government,” he remarked.

Expressing hope for the party’s resurgence, he declared, “The battle is still the Lord’s. The NPP will rise again.”

He encouraged unity among members and emphasized the need to channel energy into restructuring and rebuilding the party, viewing the defeat as an opportunity to refocus and prepare for future electoral victories.
