Accra Lions FC has officially announced that Coach Ibrahim Tanko will be stepping down after three years at the helm, following a mutual agreement between him and the club.
During his time with the Lions, Tanko’s leadership was instrumental in the club’s development, earning widespread respect for his dedication to advancing the club’s goals.
In a seamless transition, Tanko has handed over the coaching duties to German coach Rainer Kraft, who returns to the club with extensive experience. Kraft previously guided Accra Lions to promotion into the Ghana Premier League during his tenure from 2019 to 2021. He is well-versed in the club’s mission of nurturing young talent and competing at the highest levels.
Tanko expressed deep pride in his achievements with the team, highlighting the close relationship he built with both the players and staff.
“I leave the role with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is more than just a club—it is family. While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club in any way,” Tanko said.
The club’s management thanked Tanko for his invaluable contributions, assuring him that the door is always open for a possible future return.
As Kraft takes over the reins once again, Accra Lions FC remains committed to its mission of developing top-tier talent and striving for further success in the Ghana Premier League.
Under Tanko’s leadership, the club finished second in the Premier League last season, but they have faced a challenging start to the 2024/25 campaign.
