The Regent of Okponglo, Nii Sowah Ako Odoi has issued a stern warning to encroachers disguised as the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team to stay off its Shiashie Lorry Station land.
The family has said that the parcel does not belong to the government or any other state agency and must be stayed off.
Nii Odoi sounded the caution at a press conference after some unknown persons vandalised structures on the land.
He stated that the land belongs to the family and they would appreciate it if those entering the land unlawfully, desist and pack all their materials.
The Regent indicated that the information they have gathered suggests that these encroachers are claiming to be members of the ORAL team.
“Without proper consultation or authorization from the landowners, these individuals have demolished portions of the existing walls,” he said.
During a visit to the site, the news team observed that the land has currently been graded and fenced, where this unknown faces demolished portions in an attempt to capture that parcel of land.
“We have all documents showing that a court case between the family and the state went in our favour, so that parcel of land is not for the state; and we have given it to a private developer,” he stated.
The Presiding member for Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly and Assembly member for the East Legon Electoral area, Benjamin Nortey Oklah explained to the media how the assembly together with the family got a developer to develop the site.
“I am aware that the land has been given back to the family, it was duly agreed by the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly and we even relocated the lorry station so the place can be developed. So it is no more a government or state land,” he noted.
The spokesperson for the IOP Group, Alhaji Suleman Barron, said the ORAL team has no business to intimidate private businesses and should desist from attacking them.
He has appealed to the government to ensure that individuals do not use the name of oral for their selfish interests.
