Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, believes the Black Stars can turn their fortunes around in upcoming matches despite recent setbacks.
Ghana’s senior national team has dominated headlines for the wrong reasons after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco later this year.
The Black Stars endured a dismal qualifying campaign, securing just three points from six matches—three draws and three losses—leaving them at the bottom of Group F.
However, Asante Twum remains hopeful about the team’s potential to improve and address their shortcomings.
“It is not the goal of anyone at the FA, whether at the leadership or staff level, to continue failing at the national team level, which is where we are now,” he told Akoma FM.
“There is always an opportunity to correct your mistakes, and I know that, from the players to the technical team, if Otto Addo stays, he has learned his lessons. If not, I believe whoever comes in will have watched our matches and picked up some useful lessons to correct future mistakes.”
Drawing comparisons to Manchester City’s recent unexpected challenges, Asante Twum highlighted football’s unpredictable nature, suggesting that a single positive result could reignite the team’s form.
“The recent events at Manchester City are beyond conception, but this is football. It only takes one excellent result to turn things around, and that is what we are focusing on,” he added.
The Black Stars will look to redeem themselves when they take on Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers this March.
