GFA charges Samuel Anim Addo over bad officiating remark on social media

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Sammy Anim Addo, president of Young Apostles, with misconduct following a controversial social media post in which he criticized the officiating in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Anim Addo, a former member of the GFA Executive Council, accused referee Maxwell Hanson of being the GFA’s “man for dirty works” in a post related to complaints from Accra Lions about Hanson’s performance during their 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf over the weekend.

The Young Apostles president also claimed that the GFA had threatened to ensure his team’s relegation after he raised concerns about poor refereeing in the league.

In response, the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee issued a statement, asserting that Anim Addo’s comments on X (formerly Twitter) amounted to misconduct and tarnished the league’s reputation.

Samuel Anim Addo has been charged with a breach of Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019, following his commentary on his social media account on X. It is alleged that his commentary in the said post constitutes misconduct, which brings the name of the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Premier League into disrepute. It is further alleged that part of his commentary involved accusations against a match official without proof. He has until Monday, January 13, 2024, to respond to the charges.

Anim Addo has been given until Monday, January 13, 2024, to formally respond to the charges.
