Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has shared an emotional reaction to the controversial Matchday 16 game between Dreams FC and Accra Lions, played on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
The game, officiated by referee Maxwell Hanson, has drawn widespread criticism on social media due to a series of questionable decisions.
Fans have been vocal in their disapproval, with some even calling for the referee to face disciplinary action.
Accra Lions added fuel to the debate by releasing video highlights that highlighted several contentious calls, sparking heated discussions among football enthusiasts.
Among those moved by the controversy was Sannie Daara, who expressed his frustration and disappointment on social media.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), he admitted to being deeply affected by the perceived unfairness of the officiating.
“In 20 years, for the first time, I shed tears at 1 am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions. I have firsthand knowledge of the millions of dollars the Lions have invested in Ghana football, and seeing this being undermined was too painful. I am a human being; I have a soul,” he wrote.
First the time in 20 years, I shed tears at 1am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC v Accra Lions. At first hand, I know the millions of dollars Lions have invested in Ghana football and to watch this being destroyed was too painful. I am a human being, I have got a soul.
