Two security officers of the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) were assaulted on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, by individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The group reportedly stormed the company’s premises, intending to lock the offices of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Deputy CEO in connection with the end of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

The Director of Human Resources and Administration at VALCO, Kwame Abubakar Essuman, confirmed the incident to Citi News, revealing that one of the officers sustained injuries requiring medical attention.

“The officer was struck from behind with a stick, resulting in swelling on his head and general body pain. He has since been treated and discharged,” Essuman disclosed.

In response to the attack, the Tema Newtown District Police Command has assured VALCO of increased security measures to prevent further disturbances.
