The Matchday 15 fixtures of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League have concluded at various venues, with one game left to be played on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Heart of Lions extended their unbeaten streak with a narrow 1-0 win over Young Apostles at the Kpando Sports Stadium. A late strike by Kwesi Pong in the 87th minute was all the hosts needed to secure the three points.
In a crucial match at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, bottom-placed Legon Cities suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Aduana Stars. Abdel Bamba’s goal in the 44th minute was enough to give the Ogya lads their first win under new coach Cioba Aristica.
At the Ampian AAK II Sports Arena, Bechem United failed to show up for their scheduled match against Basake Holy Stars. Bechem United had informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday that their bus had broken down en route to Ainyinase.
The GFA offered to reschedule the match, but Holy Stars refused, citing the late notice and the additional costs involved.
Despite efforts from Holy Stars officials to contact Bechem United, the team did not respond, and the match was abandoned.
Bechem United now faces potential sanctions from the GFA, including being declared losers and possibly deducted three points. The club could also face a fine of at least 10,000 Ghana cedis for bringing the game into disrepute.
On Friday, Asante Kotoko continued their strong form with a 2-0 victory over Bibiani GoldStars at the Baba Yara Stadium. Justice Blay opened the scoring with a penalty in the first half, and Kwame Opoku sealed the win with a late strike.
In Sunday’s fixtures, Karela United drew 1-1 with Vision FC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Joshua Kwame Rhule gave the away side the lead just before halftime, but Karela’s Jibril Nurudeen equalized in the 80th minute to share the spoils.
At the WAFA Park in Sogakope, Hearts of Oak defeated Accra Lions 3-2. Mohammed Hussein broke the deadlock in the 36th minute for Hearts, and although Accra Lions equalized through Lucky Nwafor and later took the lead via Ezekiel Alladoh, two quick goals from Mawuli Wayo in the 81st and 84th minutes sealed the victory for the Phobians.
At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea and Dreams FC played out a 0-0 draw.
Defending champions FC Samartex were held to a 1-1 draw against Nations FC at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Solomon Adjei put FC Samartex ahead in the 33rd minute, but Emmanuel Annor leveled for Nations FC in the 43rd.
The final Matchday 15 fixture will take place on Wednesday, January 1, as Nsoatreman FC hosts Medeama SC at the Nana Kronmansah Park.
Heart of Lions, Asante Kotoko, Bibiani GoldStars, and Nations FC occupy the top four positions, while Accra Lions, Dreams FC, and Legon Cities remain in the relegation zone.
