The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has criticized the conduct of some Electoral Commission (EC) officials regarding the handling of the 2024 general elections.
He questioned the impartiality of certain EC officials, stating that those unable to perform their duties fairly should step down and pursue personal ventures.
“I am questioning the conduct of some EC officials… they cannot apply the rules differently when it suits them,” Dafeamekpor said during an interview on TV3 on Saturday, December 28, while discussing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a High Court ruling concerning the re-collation of results in some constituencies.
He added, “Be a party foot soldier if you can’t do the job. All we are saying is that the proper thing should be done.”
Meanwhile, Kwame Andy Appiah Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, praised the Supreme Court for overturning the High Court ruling on the re-collation of results in the disputed constituencies. Appiah Kubi, a private legal practitioner, stated that the High Court should have allowed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present its case before making a judgment.
“The Supreme Court did a good job… the High Court ought to have allowed the NDC to make their case,” he said during the same Key Points appearance.
The Supreme Court has instructed the Accra High Court to reconsider the NDC’s mandamus application concerning four constituencies with disputed results: Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.
