Bawumia’s prompt concession reflects dedication to national peace – Security analyst

Security analyst Dr. Asante Otchere has stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decision to concede defeat to John Mahama ahead of the official electoral declaration would not have impacted the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking on TV3, Dr. Otchere emphasized that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had their own internal data and projections.

“The same way the NPP had their data and numbers, the NDC also had theirs. Even if Dr. Bawumia had not conceded early, it wouldn’t have changed the fact that he lost to the president-elect, John Mahama,” Dr. Otchere remarked.

He acknowledged the emotional strain that often accompanies electoral defeats.

“It’s not easy to approach an election with confidence and bravado, only to face such a resounding loss. Conceding is often more about personal pride than the data. Delaying would not have changed the outcome, especially since the NDC, I’m reliably informed, completed their collation almost instantly,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia, addressing his supporters on December 26, explained his decision to concede promptly. Speaking from his residence, the NPP flagbearer affirmed that his choice was rooted in a commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic values and ensuring national peace.

“The stability of Ghana must always come first,” he declared, underscoring his dedication to the country’s welfare.

Dr. Bawumia also extended heartfelt gratitude to his supporters for their relentless efforts during the campaign, expressing his appreciation for their loyalty and unwavering dedication.
