The National Democratic Congress NDC) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central, Baba Sadiq Abdulai, has declared that every seat won by the NDC in the recent elections will be secured in the 9th Parliament.
In a viral video, Baba Sadiq strongly condemned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation exercise, which overturned several NDC victories, and vowed that no force could stop the elected NDC MPs from being sworn in.
“On December 6 or 5, not even the IGP, the CDS, or Nana Addo himself can prevent us. If Jean Mensa is minded, she will step down in Parliament on the 6th. We won the elections credibly,” he asserted.
Citing specific constituencies, he issued a warning: “This is a strong message for Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Obuasi East. To Afenyo Markin, if you aimed to retain your position as Minority leader through this, you have failed. We are not cowards. The blood that runs through the NDC is the blood of revolution, and that revolution begins on January 5.”
Baba Sadiq dismissed any potential imposition of a state of emergency as a threat. “Nobody can intimidate us with a state of emergency. Nana Akufo-Addo is outgoing. Dr. Bawumia has lost. The IGP has no locus. Jean Mensa cannot decide for Ghanaians who their MPs are. We worked hard for our victory, and every seat we won will be represented in Parliament.”
Re-Collation Controversy
The EC’s re-collation exercise on December 21, held at the Greater Accra Regional Office, led to the reversal of four previously declared NDC wins:
- Obuasi East: Initially declared for Samuel Aboagye (NDC), re-declared for Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (NPP).
- Tema Central: Initially declared for Ebi Bright (NDC), re-declared for Charles Forson (NPP).
- Techiman South: Initially declared for Christopher Beyere Baasongti (NDC), re-declared for Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah (NPP).
- Okaikwei Central: Initially declared for Baba Sadiq Abdulai (NDC), re-declared for Dr. Patrick Boamah (NPP).
Additionally, seats in Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, and Ahafo Ano North were declared for NPP candidates Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, and Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, respectively.
Undecided Constituencies
Two constituencies remain undecided:
- Ablekuma North: NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn was declared winner without results from 62 polling stations.
- Dome Kwabenya: NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu was declared winner over NPP’s Mike Oquaye Jnr.
With these developments, the NDC would secure 181 seats in Parliament, alongside four independent candidates.
