The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced the expansion of its post-election observation activities to address issues related to the declaration of some parliamentary results.
In a statement released on December 24, CODEO outlined that the initiative, running from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and stability in the post-election environment.
The Coalition revealed that 20 citizen observers have been recruited, trained, and deployed across the country to monitor the actions and engagements of key stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, the judiciary, security agencies, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
These observers will focus on electoral disputes, the conduct of political actors, and adherence to constitutional processes as the nation prepares for the swearing-in of the President-elect on January 7, 2025.
“The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) will expand its observation efforts from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, to monitor developments, particularly regarding challenges related to the declaration of some parliamentary results,” the statement read.
CODEO stressed that this effort is part of its continuous election observation process, which covers pre-election, election day, and post-election periods.
“Our post-election observation aims to ensure that the electoral space remains conducive to peace, stability, and national unity,” CODEO stated.
Acknowledging the ongoing disputes over the declaration of results in certain parliamentary constituencies, CODEO urged all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and resolve conflicts through legitimate channels.
