2024 election: I was sidelined in NPP’s campaign – Owusu Bempah

-

A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah has alleged that he was sidelined in the campaign activities ahead of the 2024 election.

The FixingTheCountry Convener said he was not assigned any specific role but had to leverage his expertise to support the party.

This according to him contributed to the NPP’s defeat, particularly in the Ashanti region where he claims to have over two million loved ones and could have garnered votes.

“Some of us were sidelined in the whole campaign operations. I was just following the bandwagon because I am a national executive. I wasn’t assigned to any specific role to play. Someone like me, who has about 2 million followers in the Ashanti region, was sidelined,” he bemoaned.

Mr Bempah expressed his frustration in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.

“Even when I am on a campaign platform, they do not invite me to talk. If you look at the young politicians, I am the best political strategist in the country. Strategy is very key in politics.

“As a political party, you need to be strategic. You are campaigning in an election and you think that bantering Sammy Gyamfi on radio and TV will win you an election? You’ll be making a terrible mistake,” he stated.

He added all attempts to draw the attention of party leadership to the seeming apathy in the Ashanti region which he observed six months before the election proved futile.

“Even one month to election, when you call the leadership of the party to complain that there is apathy in the Ashanti region, no one picks your calls. Those who will pick your call will also do that after trying to reach them for over a month,” he added.
