The Black Galaxies of Ghana face a must-win challenge next weekend in the return leg of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, following a goalless draw against Nigeria’s Super Eagles B in the first leg.
The match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, left the tie wide open as both teams aim to secure a spot in next year’s CHAN tournament, set to be hosted across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Reflecting on the first-leg performance, Ghana’s head coach, Didi Dramani, acknowledged Nigeria’s defensive approach and strategic counter-attacks.
“From what we all saw, they [Nigeria] try to sit back and then go on the transition and when you play against a team like that, it is even more dangerous because you continuously move forward and then there will be space behind.”
Dramani emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in such a tactical battle.
“We were also cautious not to concede because it’s important that when the game is barren, it is still an open game.”
Expressing optimism, Dramani highlighted the strengths of his team:Â “We are very positive that from our display, we are good on the ball, we are good in taking spaces, they are good in making the transitions. We [should] try to avoid this [Nigeria transitions] and then take the right moments.”
The decisive second leg will take place on December 28 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, where Ghana will aim to outclass Nigeria and book their place in the prestigious tournament.
