President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has embarked on a series of diplomatic visits to neighbouring West African countries ahead of his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The visits aim to deepen regional ties and strengthen cooperation within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
As part of his tour, Mr. Mahama met with President Patrice Talon of Benin during a courtesy call in Cotonou.
The leaders discussed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and fostering regional collaboration to ensure stability and progress in the subregion.
Prior to his visit to Benin, Mr. Mahama travelled to Abuja, Nigeria, where he met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State.
During their meeting, Mr. Mahama extended a formal invitation to his upcoming inauguration and emphasized the need for continued unity and cooperation among member states. Discussions also centered on a shared vision for economic growth and regional stability.
The President-elect also held talks with Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé, focusing on strengthening historical and economic ties.
He addressed the interconnectedness of the region’s people through shared history, tribes, and economies, stressing the importance of working together to improve their lives.
