Guinness World Record (GWR) contender Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum began her second attempt at setting the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual today, December 21, 2024, at dawn, at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The event, scheduled to run through December 25, will see the determined songstress perform continuously, focusing solely on Ghanaian songs.
This initiative is designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ghanaian music to a global audience.
Madam Gladys Osei Owiredu, Afua Asantewaa’s manager, confirmed that preparations for the attempt have been rigorous, but she expressed confidence in her readiness.
“I can confirm that she is ready for the task ahead,” said Madam Owiredu. “It’s been challenging in terms of preparations, but I can say she is ready.”
This second attempt follows her first in December 2023, when she fell short of surpassing the current record of 105 hours held by India’s Sunil Waghmare.
Despite the setback, her team remains optimistic about breaking the record this time.
Corporate sponsors, including International Maritime Hospital, Ghana Gas, Nasco Electronics, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, have rallied behind Afua Asantewaa’s endeavor, emphasizing the significance of this attempt in raising the global profile of Ghanaian music.
The Singathon has captured the nation’s attention, with many eagerly following her progress and supporting her effort.
She has been performing for hours so far, with audiences eagerly anticipating her continued performance.
