Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of using the 2025 mini-budget as leverage to pressure the Minority into supporting its proposals.
His remarks follow the Finance Minister’s failure to present the mini-budget in Parliament as scheduled.
In an interview on Citi FM, Dr. Apaak condemned the government’s actions, describing them as manipulative and contrary to good governance principles.
“This is not how governance should be conducted,” he stated, urging the government to prioritize the national interest over political gamesmanship.
He accused the government of attempting to use the nation’s expectations as a bargaining chip.
“From all indications, it is clear that the NPP strangely believes it can use what Ghanaians expect us to do in service to the nation as a tool to coerce us into agreeing to several proposals, including the tax exemption. This approach is completely unacceptable,” Dr. Apaak asserted.
Dr. Apaak also criticized the Finance Minister for failing to present the mini-budget in Parliament, highlighting that this marked the fourth consecutive day the Minister was expected to appear but did not.
“This is the fourth day we’ve awaited the Minister to simply appear in Parliament, stand, and bow in acknowledgment of his responsibility. His continued absence is deeply concerning,” he said.
