The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has endorsed President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s proposed economic policies, particularly his focus on reducing unemployment through key initiatives outlined in his 2024 manifesto.
Mahama’s manifesto highlights a 24-hour economy initiative and accelerated industrialisation as cornerstone strategies to generate employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ICU’s new office complex in Accra on Wednesday, December 18, ICU General Secretary, Morgan Ayawine stressed the importance of a collaborative effort in addressing socio-economic challenges.
“We have so many problems, and one of them, which is a major albatross on our necks, is the unemployment situation.
“If we are leading workers and want graduates roaming the streets of Accra and other regional capitals to get jobs, do we sit aloof and expect the government to do it alone? It takes the collective responsibility of everybody [to create jobs],” he stated.
