The Chairman of the five-member anti-corruption committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said the team will not duplicate the work of existing state anti-corruption agencies.
According to him, the team will seek to complement the work of the existing agencies by coordinating and gathering evidence to support the recovery of looted state resources.
However, the North Tongu MP has pledged collaboration with the state agencies to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
“This team will not duplicate the efforts of any state institutions. This is just a preparatory team we are coordinating we are gathering the evidence and we will work with these institutions.
“This team is part of a transitional arrangement stepping in because there are all kinds of things already people are trying to regularize the loot, and people are trying to abscond with them,” he explained in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
He continued, “So this helps us during this transitional period to at least salvage what can be salvaged and also stop the haemorrhage and gather as much evidence as possible now that people are willing to engage with the new administration.”
The committee members include former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, retired Commissioner of Police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer.
Their terms of reference which is within the Operation Recover All Loot(ORAL) forms part of President-elect John Mahama’s broader strategy to enforce strict accountability measures and restore public trust in the public sector.
