Asante Kotoko forward, Kwame Opoku has expressed his readiness to handle the pressure that comes with playing for the prestigious club.
The 25-year-old has returned to Kotoko on a two-and-a-half-year contract after his departure to Algerian side USM Alger in 2021.
However, Opoku struggled to meet expectations in Algeria, which led to a loan move to Saudi Arabia’s Najran SC before eventually securing a permanent transfer to Olympique Khouribga.
“I am ready for the pressure. When you play for a club like Kotoko, the expectations are high. I am ready to give my best on any day. The pressure is always there, it’s up to you as a player to handle it well,” Opoku told the club’s media in an interview.
He also called on Kotoko fans to rally behind the team by showing up in large numbers at the stadium.
“Sometimes, the presence of the supporters at the stadium builds your morale. It raises the confidence level and gives you the feeling that we are playing for them indeed.
“I will urge them to come to the stadium in their numbers to support Kotoko. When they do that, I am sure we will give out our very best on any day,” he added.
Opoku was introduced to the Kotoko faithful during the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
He is expected to feature when Asante Kotoko faces Dreams FC in the Matchday 14 clash at the Tuba Astro Turf.
