Heart of Lions head coach, Bashir Hayford has expressed confidence in his ability to lead Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
The veteran coach’s declaration follows his impressive performance in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, where he has guided his team to the top of the table after 13 matches.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Hayford emphasized his qualifications and readiness for the role.
“Why do you ask? What does it take to coach the Black Stars? Everything shows I can do the job.” Hayford said.
“So if you see competence in me, give it to me; if you don’t see any competence, don’t give it to me,” he added.
Hayford’s comments come at a time when Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is under heavy criticism after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to announce a decision on Addo’s future.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will aim to redeem themselves in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March 2025.
