Heart of Lions coach, Bashiru Hayford, has played down his side’s title aspirations, despite leading the team to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings.
The Kpando-based club has been impressive in the 2024/25 season, earning 24 points after 13 matches.
While there is growing anticipation for them to mount a title challenge, Hayford remains focused on a more modest goal.
He emphasized that the team’s primary aim is to build on last season’s struggles and stay competitive throughout the campaign.
“I’m not saying we’ll win the title with Heart of Lions,” Hayford told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.
“Last season, we faced difficulties, and this season, we want to avoid those same struggles. That’s my main target.”
Heart of Lions made a statement on Matchday 13, defending champions FC Samartex 1-0 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena over the weekend.
Hayford will now look to guide his team to maintain their strong form as they prepare to face Basake Holy Stars on Sunday in Matchday 14 at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
