The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has praised the leadership of the Ghana Police Service for their instrumental role in ensuring a relatively peaceful electoral process during the December 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Friday, December 13, Mr. Gbande highlighted the proactive measures taken by the police, which he said were crucial in preventing activities that could have compromised the integrity of the elections.
He commended the vigilance of the police, noting that their actions thwarted attempts to manipulate the electoral process and averted potential violence.
“The leadership of the police administration deserves commendation for their actions. They did not allow any rigging activities that could have resulted in chaos,” he stated.
Mr. Gbande also praised the professionalism of the security forces, emphasizing their commitment to upholding Ghana’s democracy and protecting the will of the people.
He further underscored the robust measures put in place by the NDC to safeguard their votes.
He revealed that the party was well-prepared to resist any attempts to undermine the electoral process, reiterating the NDC’s dedication to defending the democratic mandate of Ghanaians.
“The NDC had a robust plan to protect our votes, and we would have stopped at nothing to achieve that,” he added.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the party and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of the elections, Mr. Gbande called on all political actors to build on this foundation of transparency and fairness.
He urged stakeholders to continue strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes in the future.
