Hearts of Oak legend, Yaw Amankwah Mireku has called on the club’s technical team to exclude defender Kelvin Osei Asibey from the squad following a costly mistake in their 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko.
Osei Asibey’s error led to the only goal of the Matchday 13 clash at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, further highlighting a recurring problem as similar mistakes by the defender have cost the team valuable points this season.
Speaking to Akoma FM, Mireku acknowledged Osei Asibey’s talent but emphasized that his repeated errors necessitate a break from the team.
“Osei Asibey wouldn’t make such errors if I were on the Hearts of Oak technical staff. Although he is an excellent player, but all the evidence points to the training grounds being the source of these errors.
“The team is losing points because of his overconfidence with the ball, which has become a feature of his game” he said.
Mireku attributed the team’s struggles to Osei Asibey’s overconfidence with the ball, which he believes has become a consistent flaw in his game.
“This is the third time his errors have cost Hearts of Oak points, and just as coaches are sacked when their errors cost the team points, players who consistently cost the team points should be sidelined,” he added.
This latest defeat leaves Hearts of Oak in 7th place on the league table with 19 points.
They will look to recover when they face Berekum Chelsea on Matchday 14 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday.
