Manager for the John Mahama Campaign Team, Joshua Alabi, has characterized the 2024 general election as a “democratic uprising” by Ghanaians against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
In an interview on Channel One TV, Professor Alabi emphasized that widespread dissatisfaction with the NPP’s inability to address the country’s challenges drove the electorate’s overwhelming support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He described this shift as a peaceful but resolute revolution expressed through the ballot box.
“When the people decide to remove you, nothing can stop it. This is what I call the people’s democratic revolution. Normally, revolutions happen differently, but this time, it is being carried out democratically, using the power of the thumb” he stated.
Prof. Alabi highlighted the growing acceptance of the NDC in regions where the party previously struggled for support.
“There were areas where you would hardly see NDC t-shirts in the past, but now people proudly wear them and ask for more. It’s a clear signal of change. People wanted to hear directly from His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and they showed up in large numbers, even waiting late into the night for him.”
The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, December 9, confirmed Mahama’s victory with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes cast. His main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
