Oforikrom MP slams NPP leadership over poor election performance

-

Member of Parliament (MP) for Oforikrom, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, has heavily criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Akufo-Addo, attributing the party’s poor performance in the December 7 general elections to their disregard for concerns raised by MPs.

He attributed the defeat to the leadership’s refusal to heed calls by over 90 MPs to remove Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The MPs argued that the Finance Minister’s policies were causing dissatisfaction among constituents, but their concerns were dismissed.

He noted that MPs consistently attend funerals, engage with community members at local gathering spots, and provide a direct link between the party and the electorate.

This allows MPs to gauge the concerns of the people, which were largely centered around economic hardships and dissatisfaction with government policies.

‘You cannot tell me that about 90 MPs were so stupid that they didn’t know what they were about when they called for Ken’s head. We hear what the people on the ground are saying. When they complain about the economy and how the Finance Minister’s policies are not helping, you must listen to us,’ he stressed.’

Marfo asserted that the NPP leadership failed to confront President Akufo-Addo with these concerns, a failure that weakened the party’s credibility and connection with its supporters.

Reflecting on the election results, Marfo suggested that the outcome was a natural consequence of leadership’s unwillingness to address grassroots issues.

He dismissed claims that the MPs’ call for the removal of the Finance Minister stemmed from personal grievances, reminding the overwhelming number of MPs who raised concerns which should have been taken seriously.
