In celebrating 25 years of banking, the Calvary Hill Assemblies of God Co-Operative Credit Union (CH-AGASSSCO) has stressed the need for Christians to work diligently and not only resort to prayers to be successful.
Former Ashanti Regional Director of Wealth Creation Department at the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. P.K. Opoku says Christians must work at wealth creation.
“Many Christians rely only on prayers and claim declarations which won’t fetch you money without working. You need to work as you can, save as much as you can, and share as much as you can,” the retired clergy advised.
The event was organised under the theme, “Celebrating 25 Years of Financial Independence through Co-Operative Savings and Loans in Asokore Mampong and its Environs.
Per the 2023 report of CH-AGASSSCO, the entity made over 2 million cedis profit and pledged an increase in dividends for shareholders.
Rev Opoku, who founded the co-operative, asserted that the vision of the credit union has been achieved since over 3,000 customers have subscribed to their services and have seen significant changes in their finances.
He is clamouring for the granting of the Assemblies of God Co-Operative Savings and Loans Limited a banking status.
“I realized many Christians were poor, so I aided this initiative in 1999. Now, many are financially independent, with their businesses and apartments, but I call on H.E. John Mahama, President, who is an A/G member, to grant AGASSSCO us a banking status before his 4-year term ends,” he pleaded.
The silver jubilee was commemorated to coincide with its 13th annual general meeting with shareholders.
A customer, Emmanuel Owusu, spoke with Adom News and shared his experience.
“I have been saving with them for some years now. I had a machine which could manufacture 1000 blocks; by their support, I now have a 5000-block manufacturing machine which is helping my business, so I encourage all residents here to patronise their services,” he stated.
Manageress for the Co-operative, Theresa Donkor, who was satisfied with the performance of the union, pledged to work hard in aiding more branches to the ones already established at Buokrom Estate Junction and Asenua.
