Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has expressed admiration for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to moving Ghana forward.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said Mahama’s passion and determination to lead the country, saying, “Mahama’s passion to see Ghana move forward knows no bounds.”

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated that, despite being written off after the 2020 elections, Mr Mahama never gave up and remained resolute.

“People wrote Mahama off after losing the 2020 elections, but he never gave up. He was determined, and now he has achieved one of the most decisive victories in our history,” he said.

He also noted that, the weight of this victory comes with immense responsibility.

“If there is any person I don’t envy, it is Mahama. The demands that this decisive victory places on him are significant,” he added.

However, the former NDC chairman took comfort in the fact that Mr. Mahama will reset Ghana and take the country to greater heights is unshakable.

“I take consolation in the fact that Mahama’s passion and desire to see Ghana reset and move forward are limitless,” he said.

He also pointed out that the former President’s return to the presidency is a rare opportunity.

“Coming back and beginning a second term as president is a rare opportunity. Mahama’s victory is profound because of the massive support the people have given him,” Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated.

He continued that “Mahama has set records again after Rawlings, securing a two-thirds majority in Parliament, and also making history with the election of the first female Vice President. With all these, I believe God will not leave him.”

Going forward, he said the NDC should be humbled by the decisive outcome of the 2024 elections.

“The 2024 election has provided many valuable lessons for politicians,” he said.
