NPP will rebuild and return to power in 2028 – Afenyo-Markin

-

Majority Leader and Effutu Member of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ability to reclaim power in the next general elections.

Speaking after Parliament was recalled by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Monday, December 16, Afenyo-Markin assured Ghanaians that the NPP is committed to introspection and rebuilding as a strong opposition party.

“The people of Ghana have heard them [the NDC] and given them the mandate,” he stated.

“Our job in opposition is to do what we’re supposed to do—keep their feet to the fire. This is not a victory to be celebrated in perpetuity. They must remain magnanimous in their win, as we prepare for the next four years.”

Afenyo-Markin emphasized the party’s focus on self-assessment, learning from its mistakes, and uniting to regain the trust of the electorate.

“We are very positive that come 2028, Ghanaians will return us to office. We will take stock, identify where we went wrong, correct those mistakes, and rebuild as a united team,” he said.

The Majority Leader also pledged that the NPP would engage in responsible and constructive opposition.

“As a formidable minority, we will not resort to disruption, violence, or chaos. We will act within the confines of the law, focus on debating issues, and distinguish ourselves so that Ghanaians recognize the NPP as a credible and capable alternative,” he added.
