The Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Loh, has announced the party’s intention to challenge the results of three parliamentary constituencies declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the National Police Training School (NPTS) in Tesano.
On Thursday, December 12, the EC declared the results for the Akwatia, Fanteakwa North, and Suhum constituencies in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a recount and collation exercise conducted at the NPTS.
However, the NDC has raised significant concerns about the legality of the process and the appropriateness of the venue, asserting that the declarations contravene established electoral procedures.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, December 16, George Loh articulated the party’s stance, arguing that the Greater Accra Regional Electoral Commission (EC) office exceeded its authority by making the declarations.
He stated that these declarations should have been finalized in the respective regions where the constituencies are located.
“The point we are making is that we were invited by the EC to the National Police Training School. We attended and waited, but even if the process was concluded, it could not legally be moved out of the respective regions,” Mr Loh stated.
He emphasized that the NDC regards the declarations as unlawful and is committed to pursuing justice through the courts.
“An illegality is an illegality, and for that reason, we will be going to court. All those declarations done at the Police Training School are illegal, and we will fight till the very end. We will challenge them in court,” he asserted.
