NDC is frustrated over the re-collation of results – Justin Kodua

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to accept the re-collated election results in the Eastern Region amid ongoing disagreements.

Speaking during an interview on TV3 at the Tesano Police Station on Friday, December 13, 2024, he criticized the NDC for what he described as inconsistent positions and questioned their credibility in addressing the issue.

Kodua recounted an instance where an NDC representative initially claimed there had been an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting but later asked for evidence such as a text message or official letter summoning the meeting.

“How can someone who earlier claimed there was an IPAC meeting, only to later allege an injunction, be taken seriously?” he questioned, expressing skepticism about the NDC’s approach.

Addressing the NDC’s concerns over alleged discrepancies during the re-collation process, the NPP General Secretary defended the transparency of the electoral process.

He maintained that any identified issues did not affect the results and called on the NDC to verify whether their records matched the Electoral Commission’s (EC) data.

“If there are no discrepancies, what is the basis of their objections?” he asked.

Kodua also suggested that the NDC’s frustrations stemmed from internal pressure.

“The NDC is under pressure from their supporters, who are questioning why they are allowing re-collation while the NPP appears calm, even relaxed enough to take food and drinks. This pressure is driving their misbehavior,” he noted.

He highlighted the NPP’s commitment to fairness by referencing the party’s history of conceding defeat in previous elections when results were unfavorable.

He called on the NDC to prioritize truth and transparency over what he termed unwarranted frustrations.

Despite delays caused by the disputes, Kodua insisted that the process must be completed accurately, no matter how long it takes.

“No matter how long it takes—today, tomorrow, or next week, the right thing must be done,” he stressed.

The ongoing disagreements follow the Electoral Commission’s decision to relocate the collation of disputed results in some Eastern Region constituencies to the Police Training School in Tesano, Greater Accra, to avoid the chaos seen in other areas.

After the re-collation, the returning officer declared Ernest Yaw Kumi, the NPP’s candidate, as the winner.

However, the NDC has rejected the declaration, citing inconsistencies between the results and the pink sheets.
