A retired Police officer and security analyst has called on retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Agordzo to apologise to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for his recent criticisms of the Police chief.
According to Nana Appiah Owusu, it is inappropriate for Mr. Agordzo to advocate for mutiny against Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, particularly considering his past legal troubles.
Mr. Owusu’s remarks come in response to the latest attack by the embattled retired ACP on the IGP.
Expressing his disapproval on Facebook, Mr. Owusu commended Dr. Dampare’s diligent service to the nation, describing his work as evident for all to see.
He criticised Mr. Agordzo’s comments, particularly the claim that some police officers might mobilize to forcibly remove the IGP from office if he remains in his role beyond January 7, 2025.
“Reading and listening to the retired police commissioner on whether the current IGP will remain in office, I was bemused by his comments.
The notion that officers would violently remove their boss is troubling, especially considering that this gentleman was once arrested for allegedly plotting a coup,” Mr. Owusu noted.
He further emphasised that the incoming President has the discretion to either retain or replace the IGP, and it is inappropriate for a retired officer to incite unlawful actions against him.
In his statement, Mr. Owusu accused Mr. Agordzo of acting out of partisan motives and urged him to retract his comments and apologise.
“He must not be seen engaging in, encouraging, or aiding disgruntled officers to engage in unlawful conduct against the IGP and the Ghana Police Service.
This act of defiance and violence must not be tolerated, as it amounts to a threat against the life of the Inspector-General of Police,” he stressed.
