True, Bawumia recorded zero votes at some polling stations in Bawku

-

Claim: Two social media users (here and  here) claim the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, recorded zero votes in some polling stations in Bawku.

Verdict: True

The Ghana Fact-Checking Coalition’s checks at various polling stations in Bawku revealed that Dr. Bawumia received zero votes in several polling stations within Kusasi-dominated communities.

Sources attribute it to a longstanding feud between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis, which reportedly led to chiefs in the Kusasi areas instructing their subjects not to vote for Dr. Bawumia, who is of Mamprusi descent.

Additionally, before the elections, the NPP was banned from campaigning in the Kusaug Traditional Area.
