The Commonwealth Observer Mission has lauded Ghana’s 2024 elections as free, fair, and transparent, despite incidents of violence that claimed at least four lives and challenges during the post-election period.
Mokgweetsi Masisi, leader of the Commonwealth Observer Mission, praised the overall conduct of the polls and highlighted the critical role played by the Ghana Police Service during a debriefing with the National Election Security Taskforce.
“It’s significant to applaud the conduct of the 2024 elections in Ghana because, in terms of the criteria established, they qualified as free, fair, transparent, and decisive,” Masisi stated.
He emphasized the police’s professionalism, noting, “The police in Ghana played an extremely important role as the referee of law and order and the keeper of peace, all without resorting to the use of force.”
The commendation reinforces Ghana’s reputation for upholding democratic values, even amidst challenges.
